Pregnant Man

Sinnick posted recently about the Oprah episode that was about a man who was pregnant. It was actually a transgendered man..who once was a woman. I really enjoyed the episode, and really found the love between the couple very sweet.

I really wish that americans in particular would focus on the people that are becoming parents and not the lifestyle, or orientation, or even gender in this case. I think that both of these people on Oprah represent exactly what parents should be. They were sweet, kind, caring, and intellegent. They were family focused. They were happy people.

It bothers me so much when people pigeon hole people because of assumptions, or judgement. I lived in South Africa during apartheid ...and I understand very well what bigotry and hatred can do to an entire society.

I hope these people are treated fairly and supported throughout this pregnancy...although it may be outside of our realm of what is familiar...that does not make it wrong.

I agree.

I do find it a bit odd though simply because I would have thought that the concept of "pregnant" wouldn't mesh well with the concept of "man" and therefore someone who would go so far as to have a sex change to become male wouldn't be interested in becoming pregnant. My friend's mother suggested that perhaps the urge to bear a child wasn't wrapped up in female sexuality at all, and that one could identify sexually as a male but still wish strongly to carry a child. Previously I would have argued differently. I wish that I'd seen the interview. I wonder how many straight men are walking around secretly wishing they could bear children.

I had already forgotten about [info]sinnick's post from this morning (cuz I have the memory of a goldfish), and when I read your post title, my brain read "Pregnant, man..." and not "Pregnant Man". For a moment, I got all excited! :)
